The Faculty of Health Sciences at Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) once again took part in the event organized by the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of Health as part of Public Health Week, contributing to awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting community health.
Under the guidance of Research Assistants Ceyda YILMAZ and Fehime ÇANLIOĞLU, students from the Faculty of Health Sciences took part in the faculty’s booth, contributing to public information, health education, and awareness-raising activities. At the booth prepared by the faculty’s academic staff and students, information was provided to the public on cancer screenings, breast milk and breastfeeding, HPV, preconception counseling, common issues during pregnancy, postpartum care, childbirth preparation, and coping with stress. Participants’ questions were also answered, supporting their access to accurate and reliable health information.
This year’s event also featured gamified educational materials to make health information more engaging, memorable, and enjoyable. Through various games and interactive activities, participants had the opportunity not only to gain information about health-related topics but also to reinforce their learning by applying what they had learned. The “Health Wheel,” designed around cancer screenings, engaged participants with questions about the importance of cancer screening, screening programs, and early diagnosis. The “Breast Milk Wheel” was used to raise awareness about the importance of breast milk, breastfeeding, and colostrum. The games encouraged the active participation of children, young people, and adults alike.
The booth also featured brochures and informational materials on preconception counseling, common issues during pregnancy, postpartum care, childbirth preparation, and coping with stress. These materials were shared with members of the public to provide information aimed at increasing awareness of their own health and lifestyle. The event demonstrated that health education is not limited to the transfer of information and can be made more effective through approaches that encourage individuals’ active participation, curiosity, and engagement in the learning process.
As the ESOGÜ Faculty of Health Sciences, we will continue our university-community collaboration efforts with the aim of promoting community health, raising awareness of preventive healthcare services, and improving health literacy.
